Dia dhuit!

(THAT'S HELLO IN Gaelic)

My name is James and I am an Interaction Designer currently exploring Augmented and Virtual Reality at Logitech in Cork, Ireland.

I am a graduate from the Masters Programme in Interaction Design at Umeå Institute of Design in Sweden.

During my studies I had the opportunity to work at Frog Design in Shanghai for six months and at Designit in Oslo for six months.

Previously I worked as an Industrial Designer for five years, designing touchscreen kiosks for hospitality and retail experiences.

With my Interaction Design work I seek to combine a strong understanding of user needs with creative approaches to solving problems, and learning through prototyping.

I am happy to discuss Design, answer questions about my work,

or just to talk about prototyping as a practice.

Chery Exeed HMI

Exploring HMI In UNFAMILIAR Contexts

While at Frog Design Shanghai I was able to work on an HMI Project specific for the domestic Chinese market.

My role was as interaction designer starting at the research synthesis phase, continuing through to handover to external development partners.

My key responsibility was designing the instrument cluster and the information architecture for the HMI.

Logitech Bridge SDK

Creating new possibilities in vr

My role at Logitech involves exploring how new input devices might create new uses for Virtual and Augmented Reality.

Logitech Bridge SDK was a pilot programme aimed at creating a meaningful typing experience in VR. It allows users to see their hands in VR, which greatly increases accuracy, even for touch-typists.

My role was to refine the on-boarding experience in VR, taking the user through a complex setup procedure that involved several critical steps.

I also worked on the accompanying desktop setup application, which allowed for customisation of the experience.

VW StreetMate

Volkswagen’s POV on city mobility.

VW Streetmate a scooter sharing concept that a system of grab and go scooters for urban contexts..

The work involved was to develop a functional concept UI for display at motor shows that would fit in VW’s I.D. brand.

The Concept UI allows for live rider demos and also looping concept animation for trade show floors.

Expressive Input

Creating a dialogue with physical controls.

This project was a 6 month exploration of physical controls in Automotive HMI and how we might be able to create more complex and expressive interactions using simple controls.

This project was heavily focussed on building quick, functional prototypes to explore interactions and to uncover areas for potential exploration.

My collaboration partner during this project was Android Auto.

KTM MyRide

Exploring Connectivity at 200 km/h

While at Kiska I worked on a mobile app redesign which involved adding advanced dashboard connectivity into an existing mobile application.

The application was redesigned to include a navigation component that the rider could pair with the instrument of their bike,

This allows the rider to receive GPS enabled turn by turn notifications as they ride.

I’m currently...
